Newbie blogger asks for advice...

As a newbie blogger (just about a month now) I am still learning the ropes. Today I opened a separate e-mail address under the name westbankmama, and I added it to my profile.

I'd like to ask for general advice about blogging, if anyone is interested in pontificating. The technical stuff will probably go over my head, but I love to learn from others.

How would you finish these statements?

The biggest mistake I ever made blogging was...

The best thing I learned about blogging is...

Thank you in advance.

1. Biggest Mistake: You can never be too anonymous. People figure out who you are in the end.

2. Best thing I learned from blogging: The JBlog world is even smaller than the Jewish one.

I agree on both - although, I unlike Jameel, never believed that I would be able to remain anonymous, and gave up on it in the beginning.

Also, the J-Blogsphere is rather small - I would have never dreamed, before starting my blog, that i would have had a friendly lunch with someone neamed Jameel.

As for the rest of my ideas, I e- mailed you a whole list, which hopefully you will find helpful.

Dear WestBank,

I think the key is to get your name out there and become a 'household commodity'if indeed that is your intent. Whatever it may be, I have learned a couple of things:

1) The circle is relatively small and ...

2) Your postings will be read only if you do get your name out there ...

3) That they'll respond is another matter though it takes time and patience ...

4) No big surprise here but there are lots of good folks out there and ...

5) don't be overly modest about shameless self-promotion :)

I am,

Very Sincerely yours,

Thank you all for your comments.

Jameel - I need the "feeling" that I am annonymous so that I can write comfortably. The few people who make the effort to figure out who I am will not take this feeling away.

ze'ev - Thank you for your e-mail. When I get a chance to read it (kids are home now, latkes to make, etc.)I will respond.

alan - thank you. I am not sure I want to be a "household commodity" (is that like coffee and sugar?) but having a few people appreciate my writing is very nice.
