What Will The World Say When We Die?

Another barrage of rockets fell in Sderot this morning - and this time the miracles ran out. A woman has been killed, another person is in critical condition, and others are wounded lightly. This does not include the many who are suffering from shock.

We all know how apesh*t the world went when the IDF fired, by mistake, and killed Palestinian civilians in Beit Hanoun while targeting terrorists. What will the reaction be to a Jewish woman killed by Kassam rockets deliberately aimed at civilians?

Enraged? Hysterical? Upset? Concerned?

I doubt it.

Come on world, prove me wrong.

Update: 10:00am Israel time: Another barrage of rockets fell in Sderot. A psychologist who works there came on to IDF radio to report that there is a severe shortage of psychologists to help with the trauma that everyone is experiencing. The shortage is not just for today's short term need - but is long term also. She says that professionals are afraid to go to Sderot to work because of the security situation. She is describing some of the difficulties - there are babies whose first words are "BOOM". There are children who can't concentrate in school. There are adults who are experiencing marital problems due to the stress.

These are some of the things that need to be considered when deciding whether to go into Gaza again. Our people are in danger - not only physically.

Update 5:30 pm Israel time: More rockets fall near Ashkelon as Fatima Slutzker, the woman killed this morning, was laid to rest.

I have the international news on right now--its not even in the leading stories, much less provoking outrage in Europe and the Americas. Why don't WE have an Al Jazeera? It would be money well-spent to put our facts in front of the world.

unfortunately, the world has always believed that jews are expendable. our suffering doesn't matter, especially when we can be scapegoated for the suffering of others. i just wish the world would open up their eyes to reality.

It's disgraceful. If it was the other way around, the world would be 'outraged'!

Hi, I've been reading (and quite enjoying) your blog for awhile. It's certainly a view no one gets in the US from the US media. To hear them tell it, the only suffering is in the Arab world, and Israel is the cause of it all.

I'm concerned about the fate of Jews (I'm not Jewish). Everywhere around me I hear anti Jewish, anti Israel crap. It's as if problems in the Middle East didn't start until the first day of Israel's existence.

I'm worried about the fate of Israel. I'm even beginning to hear whispers among conservatives of "If only Israel..." And I'm even hearing louder voices of liberals who seem to genuinely believe that Israel should be plucked up and put back down into Germany. The rationalization is that Germany caused the problems, they should take care of it. (As if the Holocaust was the only reason to create Israel)

I think Israel suffers what the US suffers, too much concern with what the rest of the world thinks. No matter what, the haters will find a reason to hate so might as well do what needs to be done and stop worrying about what everyone else thinks.

Double standard is right!

Stay safe.

juli - what you say is right, and very scary. There is quite a lot of quiet anti-Semitism in America that American Jews are not aware of (or that they choose not to see because it is too frightening). Another Holocaust can happen again very easily - and not just in Europe. The difference is that there are a lot more non-Jews in America, like yourself, that will stand up for us if needed.

Thanks for reading my blog!
